Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit AF?
UAE ordinary passport holders need a visa for Afghanistan. As of 2026, the route is an online tourist e-visa via the official E-Afghans portal (eafghans.com), valid for a 30-day single-entry stay, with entry permitted only through Kabul International Airport. There is no visa-free, visa-on-arrival, or visa-waiver arrangement for United Arab Emirates ordinary passport holders traveling to Afghanistan for tourism. Afghanistan launched an online tourist e-visa system in March 2026 through the official E-Afghans portal (eafghans.com/e-visa), which is now the primary route for foreign tourists, replacing reliance on embassy/consular stickers and the older limited visa-on-arrival facility. The e-visa is a single-entry tourist visa: it must be used within 90 days (3 months) of issuance and permits a stay of up to 30 days. Critically, the e-visa is currently accepted for entry only at Kabul International Airport (HKIA); land borders and other airports such as Mazar-e-Sharif, Herat, and Kandahar do not yet accept it, although departure is allowed from any exit point. The cost comprises an USD 8 application fee plus a visa fee of about USD 120 (roughly USD 123.71 with payment processing, around USD 128-132 total). Standard processing is 1-3 weeks, with same-day express options available at higher cost. Travelers should also be aware that Afghanistan remains under Taliban administration and most governments (including the UAE) advise against all travel due to serious security risks; comprehensive insurance and tour-operator support are strongly recommended.
