South African ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Zambia for tourism. They may enter visa-free and stay up to 90 days per year as tourists. As of 2026, holders of an ordinary South African passport enjoy visa-free entry to Zambia for short tourist stays. The arrangement reflects the long-standing reciprocal mobility between the two Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states and was reinforced by Zambia's January 2025 visa-waiver expansion that brought the total number of visa-exempt nationalities to roughly 167. South Africans may stay up to 90 days within a 12-month period for tourism (30 days for business). No visa, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival fee applies for this purpose. At the port of entry, travelers receive a free entry/visitor stamp. Standard requirements still apply: a passport valid for at least six months with blank pages, proof of onward or return travel, and evidence of sufficient funds and accommodation. Note that Zambia is in Africa, not the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply here. Travelers should always confirm current rules with the Zambia Department of Immigration shortly before departure, as fees and policies for other nationalities have changed recently.
