South African ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Namibia for tourism. They may stay up to 3 months (90 days) within any one calendar year, visa-free, under Namibia's standing exemption for SADC and other visa-waiver countries. A South African citizen holding an ordinary passport can travel to Namibia for tourism or a short visit without obtaining a visa in advance or on arrival. South Africa is one of roughly 24 nationalities that remained visa-exempt after Namibia's major April 1, 2025 policy overhaul, which removed visa-free access for 33 mostly Western countries (now requiring a paid visa-on-arrival or e-visa). As a fellow SADC member with a long-standing reciprocal arrangement, South Africa was unaffected. The permitted visa-free period is a maximum stay of three months (commonly cited as 90 days) within any single calendar year for holidaymakers and tourists; this is cumulative, not reset by re-entry. The traveler is simply stamped in at the border or airport. Requirements at entry are a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry, at least three blank pages for stamps, proof of onward/return travel, and sufficient funds. Tourist entry does not permit employment. Extensions of up to a further three months can be requested from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security in Windhoek. Because Namibia's policy has changed repeatedly in recent years, travelers should re-confirm shortly before departure, but as of 2026 the no-visa channel for South Africans is firmly in place. Namibia is in southern Africa, not the Schengen area, so no Schengen 90/180 rule or ETIAS applies.
