No visa is required. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States, so for US citizens travel to Puerto Rico is domestic travel. You do not need a passport or visa, and there is no immigration or customs control on arrival. Puerto Rico is a US territory (the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico), not a foreign country. A United States citizen traveling there for tourism makes a domestic trip: there is no passport requirement, no visa, no immigration inspection, and no customs declaration. A valid government-issued photo ID accepted for domestic air travel is sufficient to board a flight. As of 7 May 2025 the federal REAL ID enforcement is in effect, so the ID used for a domestic flight must be REAL ID-compliant (a star marking) or you must present an acceptable alternative such as a US passport or passport card. There is no limit on length of stay, no entry fee, and no application process of any kind. The US dollar is the currency, English and Spanish are official, and there are no health-entry or visa-style requirements for US citizens.
