Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, and stays over 30 days require registration with the Mongolian Immigration Agency. United States citizens holding an ordinary passport enjoy one of Mongolia's most generous entry policies: visa-free admission for stays of up to 90 days for tourism and short visits. This is a long-standing bilateral arrangement, separate from Mongolia's temporary 30-day visa-waiver program for 34 European and Pacific countries (extended through December 2026). The 90-day visa-free status for US (and Canadian) citizens is confirmed stable through at least the end of 2026 by both the US Department of State and the Embassy of Mongolia. Travelers must hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of arrival with at least one blank page. While no visa is needed, any foreign national intending to stay longer than 30 days must register with the Immigration Agency of Mongolia within the first seven days of that extended stay (registration can be completed online or by a housing provider). Failure to register or overstaying the 90-day limit results in daily-accruing fines that must be paid before departure. Mongolia is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
