No visa required. US ordinary passport holders can enter Lithuania for tourism or short visits visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, since Lithuania is a Schengen Area member. Lithuania is a member of the Schengen Area, and the United States is a Schengen visa-exempt country. A US ordinary passport holder may travel to Lithuania for tourism, business, or transit without a visa for stays of up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period (counted across the entire Schengen Area, not Lithuania alone). The passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years, be valid for at least three months beyond the intended Schengen departure date, and have at least one blank page; the U.S. State Department's Lithuania quick facts list six months, so six months is the safer buffer. As of 2026-06-21, no electronic travel authorization is required: the EU ETIAS scheme is scheduled to start operations in the last quarter of 2026, after which visa-exempt travelers including US citizens will need an approved ETIAS (EUR 20 for most adults, valid up to 3 years or passport expiry) before travel once it becomes mandatory. The Entry/Exit System (EES), a biometric border registration system for non-EU short-stay travelers, has been fully operational since 2026-04-10 and replaces manual passport stamping where EES applies, but it does not change the visa-free status. For stays beyond 90 days or for work/study, a national type D visa or residence permit is required. Border officers may ask for proof of sufficient funds, accommodation, medical insurance, and a return or onward ticket.
