US ordinary passport holders need a visa for Equatorial Guinea and must obtain it online before travel. Since 1 July 2023, the standard route is the tourist eVisa, applied for online and approved before departure. There is no visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival for US citizens. A United States ordinary passport holder cannot enter Equatorial Guinea visa-free. The government launched an electronic visa (eVisa) system on 1 July 2023, and this is now the standard channel for US tourists. You apply online through the official Equatorial Guinea eVisa portal, upload supporting documents (including a yellow fever vaccination certificate, which is mandatory for entry), pay the government fee of 10,000 XAF, and receive an approval letter by email, typically within about 3 working days (24-72 hours). You must print the approval confirmation and present it on arrival. A critical condition: eVisa holders must enter through Malabo International Airport, where the actual visa is stamped into the passport. The eVisa is a single-entry document valid for 90 days, permitting a stay of up to 90 days. Passports must be valid at least 6 months beyond arrival with at least one blank page. Note that many third-party agencies advertise much higher prices (USD 75 and up) because they bundle service fees on top of the government charge; the underlying official fee is 10,000 XAF. Be conservative: do not travel without an approved eVisa, as there is no on-arrival option for US citizens.
