US passport holders normally need a visa (an eVisa) to visit Gabon, but as of December 18, 2025 Gabon suspended visa issuance to US citizens in reciprocity for the US travel ban that took effect January 1, 2026. As of June 2026 the suspension is still in force, so US tourists cannot currently obtain a Gabonese tourist visa or eVisa. Travel is effectively not possible for ordinary tourism until the suspension is lifted. A US ordinary passport holder requires a visa to enter Gabon for tourism. Under normal conditions the standard route is the Gabonese eVisa, applied for online at the DGDI portal (evisa.dgdi.ga) with the visa sticker issued/paid for on arrival at Libreville International Airport. However, the political and legal situation changed sharply at the end of 2025. On December 16, 2025 the United States issued a Presidential Proclamation placing Gabon under partial entry restrictions effective January 1, 2026. In direct response, the Gabonese Council of Ministers announced on December 18, 2025 the suspension of all visa issuance to US citizens, and the US Embassy in Libreville published a Visa and Entry Ban notice on December 29, 2025. As of the date of this report (June 2026) that reciprocal suspension remains in effect, meaning US citizens cannot obtain a new Gabonese visa or eVisa and are effectively barred from entry for tourism. Entry into Gabon is at the sole discretion of the Gabonese government, and the US Embassy cannot facilitate entry for private citizens. US travelers should monitor the State Department travel advisory and contact the Embassy of Gabon in Washington, DC before making any plans. Travelers who do reach Gabon under any future reopening must also present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (required for all travelers over 9 months of age) and a passport valid for at least 6 months with at least one blank page. The figures in this report reflect the standard pre-suspension eVisa regime, provided for reference for when normal issuance resumes.
