US ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourist or business visits to the Republic of Cyprus and may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Cyprus is an EU member but not part of the Schengen Area, so this allowance is separate from Schengen days. ETIAS is not required as of 2026-06-21; it is scheduled to start in the last quarter of 2026 and will apply to visa-free travel to Cyprus once operational. A United States ordinary passport holder can travel to the Republic of Cyprus for tourism or business without a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Cyprus is a member of the European Union but is not in the Schengen Area, which means the Cyprus 90-day clock runs independently of the Schengen 90/180 short-stay rule. Travelers should enter and exit only through the government-controlled south at Larnaca or Paphos airports, or the legal seaports of Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and Latchi; entry via the north, including Ercan airport, is not recognized as legal entry by the Republic of Cyprus. Practical entry requirements include a passport with six months remaining validity recommended by the U.S. State Department, two pages for entry stamp, proof of sufficient funds, a return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is fully operational at Schengen external borders, but Cyprus is not in Schengen, so EES is not currently the Cyprus border procedure. ETIAS is different: the European Commission says ETIAS will apply to visa-free nationals travelling to the Schengen area and Cyprus, is scheduled to start in the last quarter of 2026, and will cost EUR 20 once operational. Until ETIAS goes live, no online EU travel authorization is required for this route.
