As of June 2026, a Taiwan ordinary passport holder needs a visa (a "consulted visa" / Category C) to enter Nicaragua for tourism. Nicaragua's February 2026 visa overhaul (Provision 002-2026) removed visa-free and visa-on-arrival access for most nationalities, and Taiwan is not on the official Category A visa-exempt list. The visa must be obtained in advance and requires prior authorization from Nicaraguan immigration. On 16 February 2026 Nicaragua implemented Provision 002-2026, a major restructuring of its visa policy that abolished the old visa-on-arrival/tourist-card channel for most travelers and created two main categories: Category A (visa-exempt, up to 90 days) and Category C (visa consultada / consulted visa, requiring prior authorization from the Directorate General of Migration in Managua before a consulate can issue the visa). More than 120 nationalities — including almost all of Asia, the EU/Schengen states, the US, Canada, the UK, Japan, and South Korea — were moved to Category C. Taiwan (Republic of China) is not listed among the Category A visa-exempt jurisdictions, and Taiwan's own Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BOCA) does not list Nicaragua as a visa-exempt destination. While a small number of secondary visa-aggregator sites still describe Nicaragua as visa-free for Taiwanese, these are not authoritative and conflict with both the published Category A list and Taiwan's official government guidance. Following a conservative, traveler-safe reading of the conflicting sources, Taiwanese travelers should plan to obtain a consulted visa in advance through a Nicaraguan embassy/consulate or the Ministry of the Interior's online portal (tramitesconsulares.mint.gob.ni). Typical processing is around 30 calendar days, the consular fee is in the region of US$30–50, and the approved visa generally permits an initial stay of up to 90 days and must be used within 90 days of issuance. Because Nicaragua has no embassy network in Taiwan (the two ended diplomatic ties in 2021), Taiwanese applicants will usually apply through a Nicaraguan mission in a third country or via the online system. Nicaragua is in Central America and is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
