Thai ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Syria for tourism. There is no working eVisa (the official portal still shows "Coming Soon"), and Thailand is on Syria's pre-approval list, so a Thai traveler should arrange the visa in advance through the Syrian Consulate in Bangkok or an authorized Syrian tour operator rather than relying on visa-on-arrival. As of 2026-05-30, Thailand (ordinary passport) holders are not eligible for any visa-free, ETA, or guaranteed visa-on-arrival channel into Syria and must obtain a visa before travel. After the January 2025 change of government, Syria reorganized its visa system: only a short list of mostly Arab/regional nationalities (e.g., Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Mauritania, Yemen) enter visa-free, and a set of Western and former-Soviet nationalities can get visa-on-arrival. Thailand is not on either list. An electronic visa (eVisa) was announced in 2024, but the official evisa.sy platform is not operational and displays "eVisa Coming Soon," so it cannot currently be used. Thai citizens are treated as a pre-approval nationality, meaning entry approval must be secured in advance. In practice this means applying through the Syrian diplomatic mission (Consulate General of Syria in Bangkok) or arranging a sponsored visa through a licensed Syrian tour operator who obtains a security/entry clearance before arrival. Fees are paid in US dollars cash (typically around USD 50-75 for a single-entry tourist visa), as ATMs and credit cards are not usable in Syria. Strict rules apply: any Israeli stamp, Israeli visa, or evidence of travel to Israel results in refused entry, and dual nationals should travel on a single passport. Syria is not in the Schengen area, so the 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Given the unsettled situation, conflicting reports, and the non-functional eVisa, the conservative and correct verdict is visa-required: arrange entry approval well before departure and reconfirm current conditions with the consulate or operator close to travel.
