As of 1 June 2026, a Thailand ordinary passport holder visiting Sri Lanka for tourism must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before departure. Thailand is one of the 40 nationalities granted a free tourist ETA under regulations approved by Sri Lanka's Parliament on 7 May 2026 and effective 25 May 2026, so the standard USD 50 tourist fee is waived. The ETA is still mandatory and cannot be obtained on arrival — Sri Lanka ended its visa-on-arrival option on 15 October 2025. The free tourist ETA grants a 30-day stay with double-entry permission. Travelers should apply only through the official portal at eta.gov.lk, which is the cheapest and most reliable channel. Extensions up to a total of about 6 months are possible through the Department of Immigration & Emigration for an additional fee.
