Thai ordinary passport holders need a Schengen Type C (short-stay) visa to visit Iceland for tourism. Thailand is not on the Schengen visa-exempt list, so ETIAS does not apply. Iceland is part of the Schengen Area but not the EU. Thailand is not among the countries whose nationals enjoy Schengen visa-free entry, so an ordinary Thai passport holder must obtain a Schengen Type C (short-stay) visa before traveling to Iceland for tourism. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Because Iceland has no embassy in Thailand, Denmark officially represents Iceland for visa matters, and applications are lodged at the VFS Global centre in Bangkok on behalf of the Royal Danish Embassy. The standard adult fee is EUR 90 (about THB 3,500), with biometrics (fingerprints and photo) required in person. Processing typically takes about 15 calendar days but can extend to 45 days for cases referred to authorities in Denmark. ETIAS, the upcoming EU travel authorization expected in late 2026, applies only to visa-exempt nationalities and therefore does NOT cover Thai travelers, who continue to need a full Schengen visa. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) began rolling out in April 2026 and affects border crossing procedures but does not change the visa requirement for Thai citizens.
