A widely used alternative exists: holders of a valid multiple-entry US visa, Canadian visa, US/Canadian residence, or a valid multiple-entry Schengen Category C/D visa may enter Costa Rica visa-free, with the permitted stay tied to the remaining validity of that document. Costa Rica is NOT in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to entering Costa Rica; the Schengen reference is relevant only because a valid Schengen visa can substitute for a Costa Rican visa.
