Russian ordinary passport holders need a visa for Madagascar, but it is easy to obtain: an eVisa applied for online before travel (recommended), or a visa on arrival at Madagascar's international airports. For a short tourist trip the 15-day stay now costs EUR 30 / about USD 35 (raised from EUR 10 on 16 February 2026). Madagascar grants visa-on-arrival and eVisa access to citizens of virtually every country except Burundi and Palestine, and Russia is fully eligible. There is no visa-free entry: every short-stay tourist must hold a tourist visa, but it can be obtained electronically (eVisa via the official portal evisamada-mg.com) before departure or stamped on arrival at airports such as Ivato (Antananarivo), Nosy Be, Antsiranana, Toamasina and Tuléar. The eVisa is recommended because it locks in the fee and confirmation in advance and avoids airport queues. Tourist stays are sold in tiers: up to 15 days, 16-30 days, 31-60 days and up to 90 days. Following the 16 February 2026 fee revision the 15-day eVisa is EUR 30 (about USD 35), 30 days EUR 35, 60 days EUR 40 and 90 days EUR 50. The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay and have blank pages; travelers should also carry a return/onward ticket and proof of accommodation. The classification for a short tourist visit is eVisa, with visa-on-arrival as the equivalent in-person alternative.
