Russian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for Armenia. Under the CIS/EAEU mobility arrangements you may enter visa-free and stay up to 180 days within any single calendar year. Russians may even cross with an internal Russian passport when arriving by air, though an international passport is recommended. Russia and Armenia maintain one of the most open travel regimes in the world, grounded in their shared membership of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). A Russian citizen holding an ordinary passport needs no visa, no eVisa, and no electronic travel authorization to visit Armenia for tourism or a short stay. Entry is granted at the border simply on presentation of a valid travel document, and the permitted stay is generous: up to 180 days within any one calendar year, which comfortably covers any tourist trip. Uniquely, Russian nationals are also permitted to enter Armenia using their internal (domestic) Russian passport rather than the international passport, particularly when arriving by air; nonetheless an international passport remains the cleaner, universally accepted choice and avoids any confusion at the border. There are no Armenian visa fees, application forms, or processing times to budget for a short visit. Travelers should still carry the usual supporting items: a passport valid for the trip, proof of onward or return travel, evidence of accommodation, and sufficient funds, since border officers retain discretion to ask for these. Registration with Armenian migration authorities only becomes relevant for those intending to remain beyond the 180-day visa-free window or to live, work, or study; ordinary tourists have nothing to file. No Schengen rules apply here because Armenia is not part of the Schengen area or the EU, and there is no ETIAS requirement. As of mid-2026 the visa-free arrangement remains fully in force; the only recent regulatory movement concerns longer-term residence/registration formalities (e.g., a new certificate-of-legal-stay fee and a portal migration scheduled for late 2026), none of which affect short tourist visits.
