Polish passport holders need a visa for Malawi. As of 3 January 2026, Poland lost its previous visa-free status under Malawi's new reciprocity-based policy. The recommended route is the official Malawi eVisa, applied for online before travel at evisa.gov.mw. Malawi reintroduced visa requirements for many previously exempt nationalities, including Poland, effective 3 January 2026, replacing the broad 2024 visa-waiver scheme with a reciprocity-based regime. Polish ordinary passport holders now require a visa for a short tourist visit. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services operates an official eVisa system at evisa.gov.mw, and travelers are strongly advised to obtain the eVisa in advance. A single-entry tourist eVisa costs USD 50, permits a stay of up to 90 days, and the visa is valid for entry within 3 months of issue. Standard processing is around 3 working days; expedited options exist for an extra fee. While Malawi maintains a visa-on-arrival channel for certain ("Category Two") nationalities at designated ports, Poland's category is not clearly confirmed in official notices, so applying for the eVisa before departure is the safe, recommended approach. Passports must be valid at least 6 months with two blank pages. Malawi is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
