Dutch passport holders need a visa for Madagascar, but it is easy to obtain. The recommended route is the tourist eVisa applied for online before departure; a visa on arrival is also available at international airports. There is no fully visa-free entry as of 2026. Madagascar is not visa-free for Netherlands ordinary passport holders. All foreign tourists need an entry visa, which can be obtained either online as an eVisa via the official portal (evisamada-mg.com) or on arrival at international airports such as Antananarivo-Ivato and Nosy Be-Fascene. The eVisa is the recommended channel because it is processed in advance (within about 72 hours) and avoids queues at the airport counter. The visa is single-entry, tourism-only. Stay tiers are 15, 30, 60 and 90 days. Until early 2026 the 15-day short stay was effectively low-cost (a small tourist tax), but since 16 February 2026 the official 15-day eVisa fee was tripled to EUR 30 / USD 35. Longer tiers cost EUR 35 (30 days), EUR 40 (60 days) and EUR 50 (90 days). A passport valid at least 6 months with two blank pages and proof of onward/return travel are required. Madagascar is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
