Netherlands passport holders do NOT need a visa for a short tourist visit to Lesotho. As an EU member-state national, a Dutch citizen receives a free visitor's permit on arrival valid for up to 14 days. A Netherlands (NL) ordinary passport holder can travel to Lesotho for tourism without a visa. Under Lesotho's visa policy, citizens of all EU member states (the Netherlands included) are visa-exempt for stays of up to 14 days, with the entry permit issued free of charge at the port of entry. No advance application, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival fee applies for this 14-day window. Note that Lesotho's eVisa portal has been suspended since April 2024, so anyone needing a longer stay must apply via a Lesotho diplomatic mission or by email (VISA-Applications.Immigration@gov.ls). In May 2025 Lesotho's Cabinet announced approval of a broader EU-wide visa exemption; until that is formally enacted, the standing 14-day visa-free allowance is what applies. Travelers should carry a passport valid at least six months beyond intended stay, proof of onward/return travel, accommodation details, and sufficient funds. Most international arrivals route through Johannesburg (South Africa), so a South African transit may also be involved depending on itinerary, but South Africa is likewise visa-free for Dutch nationals for up to 90 days. For stays beyond 14 days, an extension or a proper visitor's visa must be obtained.
