No visa is required. Malaysian ordinary passport holders can enter El Salvador visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days, but must buy a mandatory US$12 tourist card on arrival. Malaysia is on El Salvador's visa-exempt list, so an ordinary Malaysian passport holder does not need a visa for a short tourist visit. On arrival you purchase a Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turismo) for US$12, which authorizes a stay of up to 90 days. This stay is shared across the CA-4 region (El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua) under the Central America-4 Border Control Agreement: time spent in any CA-4 country counts toward the same 90-day allowance, and a single one-time extension (up to a total of 180 days) can be requested from local immigration. El Salvador is in Central America, not the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. El Salvador launched an online eVisa platform in late 2025, but that system is for nationalities that actually require a visa; Malaysians remain visa-exempt and do not use it. Carry a passport valid at entry with at least one blank page, plus evidence of onward travel and sufficient funds, which border officers may request.
