Malaysian passport holders need a visa for Ghana. As of 25 May 2026 you can apply online through Ghana's official eVisa portal (evisa.immigration.gov.gh) before you travel; an embassy visa via the Ghana High Commission in Kuala Lumpur remains an alternative. A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory. The free ETA introduced in 2026 is only for African passport holders, so it does not apply to Malaysia. Ghana is not visa-free for Malaysian (MY) ordinary passport holders, and the long-standing visa-on-arrival channel was effectively wound down with the new digital system. Ghana inaugurated a national eVisa platform on 25 May 2026 (evisa.immigration.gov.gh), run by the Ghana Immigration Service, which lets travellers from 190+ countries apply, pay and receive their authorization online before departure for tourist, business, student and transit purposes. Malaysia, being outside the African Union/ECOWAS, does NOT qualify for the free Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) reserved for African passport holders, so Malaysians pay the standard visa fee. Two routes exist: (1) the new eVisa portal, with standard processing around 72-96 hours and a single-entry tourist fee in the region of USD 260 (express tiers cost more); or (2) a paper application lodged with the Ghana High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, historically priced around USD 30 single-entry / USD 60 multiple-entry with about 3 working days processing. Because fee schedules were in flux around the portal launch, applicants should confirm the exact current price in the portal's eligibility checker before paying. A valid passport (6+ months), passport photos, proof of accommodation, return flight, and a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate are required. Given a verified electronic visa channel now exists for Malaysian nationals, the best-fit verdict is eVisa.
