Mexican ordinary passport holders need an eVisa to visit Malawi for tourism. There is no visa-free entry and no visa on arrival - apply online at the official portal (evisa.gov.mw) before you travel. Mexico is not on Malawi's visa-exemption list. Malawi abolished visa on arrival in 2020, moving all eligible travellers to its mandatory eVisa system. A reciprocity-based tightening of the exemption policy that took effect on 3 January 2026 reinforced that nationals of non-exempt countries such as Mexico must obtain a visa before arrival. The practical option for a Mexican tourist is the single-entry tourist eVisa, applied for and paid online at evisa.gov.mw. The application is processed in around 3 working days; the approved visa must be printed and presented on arrival. Note a fee discrepancy in public sources: the Department of Immigration's official fee schedule currently lists a single-entry visa at USD 75, while some tourism pages still cite the older USD 50 figure - travellers should treat the official immigration portal figure as authoritative. The eVisa is valid for use within 3 months of issue and permits a stay of up to 90 days. Malawi is in southern Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
