Mexican ordinary passport holders need an e-Visa to enter Mauritania for tourism. Visa-on-arrival was discontinued in January 2025, so the e-Visa must be obtained online via the official ANRPTS portal before boarding. As of mid-2026, Mexico is not among the small list of nationalities exempt from Mauritanian visa requirements, so Mexican citizens require a visa for tourism. The key recent change is that Mauritania shifted to a mandatory electronic visa (e-Visa) system: from 5 January 2025 all visa-required travelers must apply online through the National Agency for the Population Register and Secure Titles (ANRPTS) portal at anrpts.gov.mr, and from June 2025 Mauritanian embassies stopped issuing visas, directing applicants to the e-Visa instead. Visa-on-arrival at Nouakchott-Oumtounsy airport and land borders is no longer reliably available; travelers should hold an approved e-Visa before departure. The tourist e-Visa is typically single entry, allows a stay of up to 30 days, is valid for entry within 90 days of issue, and costs around 55 EUR / 60 USD. A passport valid at least six months with a blank page, proof of funds, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate are required. Mauritania is in West Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen/ETIAS rules do not apply.
