Applicants pay an USD 8 application fee upfront and, once approved, a USD 120 visa fee plus a USD 3.71 payment-processing fee (about USD 131.71 total). Standard processing runs roughly 1-3 weeks, with express same-day options reported. Crucially, the e-Visa is currently valid only for arrivals through Kabul International Airport; travelers entering by land or other airports still need a traditional embassy visa. Afghanistan is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply. Travelers should be aware that most foreign governments maintain "Do Not Travel" (Level 4) advisories for Afghanistan due to security, terrorism, and detention risks, and strict local laws apply (dress codes, photography limits, drones prohibited). Passports showing Israeli stamps may face scrutiny.
