South Korean passport holders need a visa to enter Eritrea. There is no visa-free entry, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival; you must obtain a tourist visa in advance from an Eritrean diplomatic mission before you travel. A South Korea (KR) ordinary passport holder must obtain a tourist visa before traveling to Eritrea. Eritrea is one of the most restrictive entry regimes in the world: it offers no visa-free access for Korean nationals, no eVisa, and no visa-on-arrival. Because Eritrea has no embassy or consulate in South Korea, the Embassy of the State of Eritrea in Tokyo, Japan is the accredited mission for applicants from Korea. Applications are filed in person or by mail (and, for some missions, via the online Consular Affairs Processing System using form B62.3), submitting a signed application form, passport photos, proof of funds, and an itinerary. The tourist visa is typically single-entry with a stay of up to about 30 days and validity up to roughly 3 months. Travelers should note two important practical realities: independent tourism is heavily restricted, and a separate Travel Permit for Foreigners is required to travel anywhere outside the capital, Asmara. Eritrea is in East Africa and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Apply at least 4-6 weeks before departure to allow for variable processing.
