No visa required. Italian (ordinary) passport holders can enter Uruguay visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days, extendable once for another 90 days. As an EU member state, Italy is on Uruguay's list of visa-exempt jurisdictions, so Italian ordinary passport holders do not need a visa for short tourist visits. On arrival you receive a stay of up to 90 days, which can be extended once at the Dirección Nacional de Migración in Montevideo for an additional 90 days (180 days total). There is no eVisa, ETA or electronic pre-authorization for Uruguay as of mid-2026. Uruguay is in South America and is not part of the Schengen Area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this direction of travel. At the border you should be ready to show a passport valid for your stay, proof of onward or return travel, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds. Entry is granted at the discretion of the immigration officer.
