Italian (Italy) ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Sudan for tourism. There is no visa-free entry, no eVisa, and no visa on arrival for Italian citizens, so the visa must be obtained in advance from a Sudanese embassy or consulate (e.g. the Embassy of Sudan in Rome). Note: Sudan is under an active-conflict "do not travel" advisory as of mid-2026, and routine consular and visa services are severely disrupted. Italy is not among the five countries (Egypt, Kuwait, UAE, Yemen, Qatar) that enjoy visa-free access to Sudan, and it is not eligible for Sudan's limited visa-on-arrival scheme (offered only to Eritrea, Kenya, Malaysia and Turkey). Sudan does not operate an eVisa or ETA system, so an Italian tourist must apply for a traditional paper/embassy visa before travel, typically through the Embassy of Sudan in Rome. Requirements include a passport valid at least 6 months, an invitation or sponsor letter, hotel confirmation, photos and the application fee; in-country police registration within 3 days of arrival is mandatory. Critically, because of the civil war that began in April 2023, Sudan carries a Level 4 / "do not travel" advisory from the US, Italy (Farnesina) and other governments as of 2026, the security situation is severe across much of the country, and tourist visa issuance is heavily curtailed. Travelers should treat this route as theoretical for ordinary tourism and consult Italy's Viaggiare Sicuri before any plans.
