Italian passport holders need a Tourist eVisa to visit Myanmar. Apply online at the official government portal (evisa.moip.gov.mm) before travel; it costs USD 50 and is usually issued within 3 working days. Italy is not on Myanmar's visa-exemption or visa-on-arrival list, so an ordinary Italian passport holder traveling for tourism must obtain a Tourist eVisa in advance. The eVisa is applied for entirely online through the official Ministry of Immigration & Population portal (evisa.moip.gov.mm). It costs USD 50 for the normal service (USD 56 for express), is single-entry, allows a maximum stay of 28 days, and is valid for 90 days from the date of issue (you must enter within that window). Standard processing is up to 3 working days. Applicants need a passport valid at least 6 months, a recent color photo (4.8 x 3.8 cm), proof of onward/return travel, and accommodation details. Myanmar runs visa-exemption and visa-on-arrival pilot schemes in 2025-2026, but these cover a limited list of nationalities (e.g. China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Macao, Hong Kong) and do NOT include Italy, so the eVisa remains the correct channel. Myanmar is not in the Schengen area; the 90/180 Schengen rule and ETIAS do not apply here.
