Italian (EU) passport holders can enter Lesotho visa-free for tourism for up to 14 days. No visa, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival is required for a short visit; you simply present a valid passport at the port of entry and receive a free entry stamp. As of June 2026, holders of an ordinary Italian passport do not need a visa for short tourist visits to Lesotho. Under Lesotho's visa policy, EU member-state nationals (including Italy) are granted visa-free entry for stays of up to 14 days. Entry is recorded with a free stamp on arrival at ports such as Moshoeshoe I International Airport (Maseru) or land borders from South Africa. Lesotho's online eVisa portal has been suspended since April 2024, but this does not affect Italian travelers because they are visa-exempt for short stays and never needed it. Note that nearly all overland arrivals transit South Africa, so Schengen-style rules do not apply here (Lesotho is in Southern Africa, not Schengen); however, travelers passing through South Africa should confirm South Africa's own visa-free transit conditions. A broader EU-wide visa exemption was approved by Lesotho's Cabinet in 2025 but its expanded implementation details remain pending; the operative current rule for Italians is the existing 14-day visa-free entry. For stays beyond 14 days, or for work/study/business, a visa or extension from the Department of Immigration is required. Always carry proof of onward travel and accommodation, and ensure your passport is valid for at least six months.
