Italian passport holders do not need a visa to visit Estonia. As EU and Schengen citizens, Italians enjoy full freedom of movement and can enter, travel, work and reside in Estonia with no visa and no time limit on tourism stays. Italy and Estonia are both members of the European Union and the Schengen Area. Under EU freedom of movement, Italian citizens have an unconditional right to enter Estonia without a visa, using only a valid passport or national ID card. There is no 90/180-day cap on Italian (EU) citizens the way there is for non-EU visa-exempt travellers; the Schengen 90/180 short-stay rule applies to third-country nationals, not to EU citizens. Internal Schengen borders mean no routine passport stamp, but travellers must still carry a valid travel document. The upcoming ETIAS travel authorisation (expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026) does NOT apply to EU citizens such as Italians, who are explicitly exempt. The only formality for stays beyond three months is a simple registration of residence with the local Estonian authority, which is an EU residency right rather than a visa.
