Italian passport holders need a Cuba eVisa for tourism. The traditional paper tourist card was phased out (mandatory eVisa from 1 July 2025; tourist cards fully discontinued from 1 January 2026). The eVisa is single-entry, allows up to 90 days, and is extendable once in Cuba. As of 2026, Italy (ordinary passport) is NOT visa-free for Cuba. Cuba operates a mandatory electronic visa (eVisa) system through its official portal (evisacuba.cu), which replaced the long-standing paper Tourist Card (Tarjeta del Turista). The eVisa became mandatory on 1 July 2025, and tourist cards were fully discontinued from 1 January 2026. Italian tourists complete the application online, but payment is made directly to the Cuban consulate/embassy serving Italy (online payment is not yet supported on the portal); proof of payment is then uploaded to finalize the application. The tourist eVisa is single-entry and permits a stay of up to 90 days, extendable once in Cuba for a further 90 days (180 days total). The eVisa is generally valid for travel for up to 12 months from issue. Beyond the eVisa, Cuba legally requires every visitor to hold travel medical insurance covering treatment in Cuba (checks can occur on arrival) and to complete the free D'Viajeros digital arrival/health declaration (QR code) within 72 hours before arrival. Passport should be valid for at least 6 months. Government fee is modest (around EUR 22, varying by consulate); processing is typically up to about 72 business hours.
