Italian passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Chile. They can enter visa-free and stay up to 90 days, receiving a Tarjeta de Turismo (Tourist Card) on arrival. Chile grants visa-exempt access to all European Union member states, including Italy, under the "Permanencia Transitoria" (temporary stay) regime administered by the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones (SERMIG). On arrival at any Chilean port of entry, Italian travelers receive a Tarjeta de Turismo (Tourist Card / PDI receipt) valid for up to 90 days. No advance visa, eVisa, ETA or pre-registration is required. Chile historically charged a "reciprocity fee" to nationals of some countries (e.g. the US until 2014/2024), but this never applied to Italian citizens, so entry is free of charge. Travelers should carry a passport valid for the duration of stay (six months' validity is widely recommended), proof of onward or return travel, evidence of sufficient funds, and accommodation details. The 90-day permit can be extended once for a fee at SERMIG, or reset by a short border exit and re-entry. Italy is not in the Schengen area's destination here — Chile is a South American country and the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this route; ETIAS would only concern Chilean nationals traveling to Europe.
