Indian ordinary passport holders generally need a visa to visit Peru for tourism, obtained in advance from the Consulate of Peru in New Delhi. There is no visa-on-arrival or eVisa for Indians. However, a major exemption applies: if you hold a valid (multiple-entry, at least once-used) visa or permanent residence for the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, or the Schengen Area, you may enter Peru visa-free for up to 180 days. As of 2026, India is not on Peru's visa-free list, so an Indian ordinary passport holder must, by default, obtain a tourist visa before travel from the Consulate General of Peru in New Delhi (the only authorized center for Indian nationals). Peru does not offer visa-on-arrival or an eVisa for Indian citizens. The critical exception, codified in Peru's immigration policy, is that nationals of India holding a valid visa or permanent residence permit for Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, or the Schengen Area may enter Peru without a Peruvian visa for tourism or business for up to 180 days within a 365-day period. To rely on this exemption the qualifying document must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Peru, should be a multiple-entry visa, and ideally have been used at least once to enter the issuing country (airlines have denied boarding to travelers who did not meet these conditions). Because the question concerns a standard ordinary passport tourist with no assumed qualifying third-country visa, and to be conservative, the best-fit verdict is visa-required, while the US/Schengen/etc. exemption is documented as the cheapest practical route for many travelers. Note: as of February 2025 Peru also introduced a transit-visa requirement affecting some Indian travelers with layovers, so confirm transit rules with your airline.
