India is now in Category C ("visa consultada" / consulted visa), which requires prior authorization from immigration authorities in Managua before travel. Nicaragua overhauled its visa policy through Provision/Decree 002-2026, effective 16 February 2026, ending visa exemptions and visa-on-arrival for many nationalities. Indian ordinary passport holders are classified in migratory Category C, the "consulted visa" (visa consultada) category. This means you must obtain advance authorization from the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners (DGME) in Managua before traveling. The process: complete the special application form, submit it electronically via the consular portal (tramitesconsulares.mint.gob.ni) or by email to solicitudes@mint.gob.ni with a scan of your passport biodata page (minimum 6 months validity), wait for written authorization from Managua, then collect/have the visa stamped at a Nicaraguan consular office.
