Indian ordinary passport holders NEED a visa for Ecuador. Since 1 September 2025 India is on Ecuador's list of ~45 nationalities that must obtain a Temporary Visitor Visa (Visa de Visitante Temporal de Transeunte) before travelling. It is applied for online (eVisa) from abroad via the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal; there is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival channel for Indian citizens. Ecuador previously granted most nationalities 90 days visa-free on arrival, but effective 1 September 2025 it added India to a list of roughly 45 nationalities that must obtain a Temporary Visitor Visa (tourist/transit category) before travel. The Embassy of India in Bogota explicitly advises that Indian citizens must apply for an Ecuadorian visa in all cases, with no exemptions. The visa is processed through Ecuador's 100% online platform (serviciosdigitales.cancilleria.gob.ec, the eVisa system launched in mid-2024), so applicants can apply from anywhere without needing a nearby consulate. A short-stay tourist visa is generally valid for a stay of up to 90 days. Required documents include a passport valid 6+ months, photo, criminal record certificate, proof of sufficient funds, travel itinerary and round-trip ticket. The tourist visa fee is around USD 50 paid online (some categories also carry a separate issuance/registration fee). Because there is no longer any visa-free, visa-on-arrival or ETA channel for Indian passport holders, travellers must complete and obtain the visa before boarding. Sources conflict because many third-party sites have not updated for the September 2025 change; the official position (Cancilleria via the Embassy of India) is that a visa is mandatory.
