Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Nicaragua. Since the February 16, 2026 immigration reform (Regulation 002-2026), Indonesia is on the "consulted visa" (Category C) list, which means you must obtain prior authorization from Nicaragua's immigration authorities in Managua before you travel. The previous visa-on-arrival option is no longer available. As of June 2026, Indonesia is firmly in the "visa-required" category for Nicaragua. Nicaragua overhauled its visa policy with Regulation 002-2026, published 13 February 2026 and effective 16 February 2026. The reform eliminated the old visa-on-arrival regime for most non-exempt countries, abolished the previous Category B (consular visa), and expanded the Category C "consulted visa" (visa consultada) to roughly 128 nationalities — Indonesia among them. A consulted visa requires prior authorization issued by the General Directorate of Migration (DGME) / Ministry of the Interior in Managua before the visa can be issued by a consulate. The process was digitized in early 2026: applicants complete a form and email passport bio-data (or use the electronic visa portal launched in March 2026) to the Ministry of the Interior, wait for the authorization to be approved in Managua (typically around 30 days, sometimes longer), and then collect/print the visa. Approved consulted visas generally allow a stay of up to 90 days. Note that Indonesia has no Nicaraguan embassy; applications are handled through the nearest accredited Nicaraguan consular mission or directly with the Ministry of the Interior by email. A separate US$10 tourist card on arrival applies only to visa-exempt nationals, so it is not the relevant channel for Indonesians. Travelers should apply well in advance (at least 4-6 weeks) and confirm requirements directly with the Nicaraguan Ministry of the Interior, as adjudication can take longer than the nominal timeframe.
