Do Indonesia passport holders need a visa to visit IQ?

Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a visa before traveling to Iraq. Indonesia is NOT among the ~43 nationalities eligible for Iraq's online eVisa, and Iraq suspended visa-on-arrival for most nationalities on 1 March 2025. Indonesians must apply for a traditional visa at the Embassy of Iraq in Jakarta before departure. As of mid-2026, Iraq requires Indonesian ordinary passport holders to obtain a visa in advance. Iraq's electronic visa system (evisa.iq), launched in 2024 and made the primary entry channel after visa-on-arrival was suspended on 1 March 2025, is open only to a defined list of roughly 37-43 nationalities (mainly EU/EEA, UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, South Korea, Russia and several Gulf states). Indonesia does NOT appear on that eligible-nationality list. Indonesians are therefore not able to use the eVisa portal or visa-on-arrival and must apply through the nearest Iraqi diplomatic mission - the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Jakarta - which typically requires an in-person appointment, supporting documents (often including a local sponsor/invitation), and a consular fee. A bilateral visa-exemption agreement between Indonesia and Iraq has been signed but has not yet entered into force, so it does not currently grant visa-free travel. The Kurdistan Region of Iraq administers its own entry rules; Indonesia falls under its sponsor-required category, so independent visa-free entry to Kurdistan is also not available. Travelers should also note Iraq remains subject to high-level travel advisories from many governments, and security conditions affect where tourists may go. Always confirm current requirements with the Iraqi Embassy in Jakarta before booking.
