Do Indonesia passport holders need a visa to visit HU?

Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Hungary for tourism. Hungary is in the Schengen Area, so the visa must be applied for in advance through VFS Global in Jakarta or Surabaya before travel. ETIAS does not apply to Indonesians because they are a visa-required nationality. Hungary is a full member of the Schengen Area, and Indonesia is on the EU's visa-required (Annex I) list. An Indonesian ordinary passport holder therefore cannot travel visa-free and must obtain a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before departure. The visa is processed for Hungary through VFS Global centres in Jakarta and Surabaya, and it permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen states. The standard embassy visa fee is EUR 80 (about IDR 1,557,000), rising to EUR 90 from 11 June 2026, plus a VFS service fee of IDR 238,000 and mandatory travel medical insurance of at least EUR 30,000. Standard processing is around 15 calendar days from submission of a complete file. A notable 2025 development: under the EU's new visa "cascade" regime adopted on 23 July 2025, Indonesian residents who have lawfully used a Schengen visa within the previous three years can be issued multi-entry visas valid up to five years, giving them travel rights similar to visa-free nationals during the validity period. ETIAS (launching late 2026) does not apply to Indonesians because they remain a visa-required nationality.
