The recommended and primary channel is the electronic visa (eVisa) administered by the Direction Générale de Migration (DGM), the DRC migration authority under the Ministry of the Interior, applied for online at the official portal evisa.gouv.cd. The short-stay/airport (VAP) tourist eVisa permits a single entry and a stay of up to 7 days, and must be used within 3 months (90 days) of issue. Applicants need a passport valid at least 6 months with blank pages, a recent passport photo, accommodation/host details (often a signed invitation or hotel booking), proof of onward travel, and yellow fever vaccination. The base government eVisa fee for a short tourist visa is commonly around USD 60, with additional service/processing charges depending on the channel used. Processing generally takes from a few business days up to about three weeks, so travelers should apply well in advance. There is no genuine visa-on-arrival; advance authorization is required for nearly all foreign visitors. For longer stays or stays exceeding the short-visit category, a traditional visa through a DRC embassy or consulate is required. DR Congo is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
