Do Indonesia passport holders need a visa to visit BN?
Indonesian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist visits to Brunei. They get visa-free entry for up to 14 days as an ASEAN member state. Since 8 January 2025, every foreign traveler must complete the free online e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before arrival; it is not a visa but is required for entry. Brunei Darussalam grants Indonesian ordinary (regular) passport holders visa-free entry for tourism and short visits of up to 14 days. Brunei's Ministry of Foreign Affairs classifies Indonesia under "Category D" countries whose nationals require no visa to enter. This stems from ASEAN cooperation, of which both Indonesia and Brunei are founding members. The only mandatory administrative step is the e-Arrival Card (e-Darussalam / INRS portal at imm.gov.bn), which became compulsory for all foreign visitors from 8 January 2025. It is free of charge and must be submitted within three days (72 hours) before arrival, providing passport, flight, and Brunei accommodation details. Travelers must also hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry and a confirmed onward or return ticket plus proof of sufficient funds. The visa-free 14-day stay is generally non-extendable for tourism; visitors needing longer must apply for an appropriate visa in advance. Because the e-Arrival Card is not a visa and cannot substitute for one, the correct verdict for a short tourist stay remains visa-free.
