Do Indonesia passport holders need a visa to visit BG?

Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Bulgaria for tourism. Bulgaria became a full Schengen member in January 2025, so the visa is a uniform Schengen visa valid across all 29 Schengen states, subject to the 90-days-in-any-180-day rule. ETIAS does not apply to Indonesians because they are visa-required nationals. Indonesia is listed in Annex I of EU Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, meaning Indonesian nationals require a visa to enter the Schengen area. Bulgaria joined the Schengen area in full as of 1 January 2025 (after partial air/sea accession on 31 March 2024), so Bulgaria now issues uniform Schengen short-stay (Type C) visas valid throughout all 29 Schengen states. An Indonesian tourist must apply in advance through the Bulgarian Embassy in Jakarta or its authorized visa application centre. The standard short-stay visa allows up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the whole Schengen zone. The standard adult visa fee is EUR 90. As of 23 July 2025, the European Commission adopted a more favourable "visa cascade" regime for Indonesian nationals: those who have lawfully used a Schengen visa within the previous three years can be issued multi-entry visas valid up to five years. ETIAS does not apply to Indonesian nationals because they hold a visa-required passport; ETIAS is only for visa-exempt travellers. Travellers should default to the standard short-stay visa process.
