Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit SN?
HK ordinary passport holders are not on Senegal's visa-exempt list, but China (including Hong Kong) nationals can obtain a short-stay visa on arrival at Blaise Diagne International Airport (Dakar/DSS). You must hold a passport valid 6+ months, a return ticket and proof of accommodation; some travelers are asked to complete an online pre-visa registration before boarding, with biometric capture done on arrival. Senegal abolished its general entry-visa regime for tourism and offers visa-free access to roughly 100 nationalities (including the EU, US, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada). Hong Kong (and mainland China) are not on that visa-exempt list, so HK ordinary passport holders need a visa. The practical and most-documented route for HK travelers is a visa on arrival (a biometric short-stay visa) at Blaise Diagne International Airport near Dakar, granted for up to one month for tourism, provided the traveler carries a passport with at least six months' validity and two blank pages, a confirmed return/onward air ticket, and proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation). Senegal also runs an online pre-visa / biometric e-visa portal (visasenegal.sn) charging around EUR 50; in periods of tighter enforcement, airlines or border officers may expect this pre-registration before boarding, with fingerprints and photo completed at the airport. Because some commercial visa services state an embassy visa is required and Senegalese policy has shifted in recent years, conservative travelers should either secure the pre-visa online or confirm directly with the nearest Senegalese mission before departure. There is no eVisa-only mandate and no Schengen involvement (Senegal is in West Africa, not the Schengen area). Yellow fever vaccination is required for travelers arriving from or transiting an at-risk country and is strongly recommended for all.
