Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit SK?
Holders of the HKSAR ordinary passport can travel to Slovakia visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Slovakia is a Schengen state, and Hong Kong is on the EU/Schengen visa-exempt list. No visa or pre-travel authorisation is required as of 31 May 2026 (ETIAS is not yet mandatory). A Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holder does not need a visa to visit Slovakia for tourism or other short stays. Slovakia is a member of the Schengen Area, and Hong Kong SAR passport holders enjoy visa-free entry to the entire Schengen zone for short stays not exceeding 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. This 90/180 allowance is cumulative across all Schengen countries combined, not per country. At the border, travellers must satisfy standard Schengen entry conditions: a passport valid for at least three months beyond the intended date of departure and issued within the previous 10 years, proof of accommodation, sufficient funds, and onward/return travel. No prior online authorisation is required at present. The EU's ETIAS travel authorisation, which will apply to visa-exempt nationalities including Hong Kong, is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2026 with a transitional grace period; it is therefore NOT yet mandatory for travel as of 31 May 2026. Separately, the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is being rolled out at external borders during 2025-2026, biometrically registering non-EU travellers in place of passport stamping. Note that this guidance applies only to the HKSAR passport; British National (Overseas) passports and Document of Identity holders may face different rules.
