Hong Kong SAR passport holders need a visa for Mozambique. The recommended route is an eVisa obtained online before travel through the official portal evisa.gov.mz. Hong Kong is not on Mozambique's visa-exempt or ETA-eligible list. A Hong Kong SAR (ordinary) passport holder is NOT visa-exempt for Mozambique and is not part of Mozambique's ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) program, which covers only a defined list of ~29-30 mostly Western and select Asian countries. Hong Kong travelers must therefore obtain a tourist visa. Mozambique launched its e-Visa system in December 2022 and migrated to a new official platform (evisa.gov.mz, operated with VFS Global) in early 2026. Through this portal, Hong Kong holders apply online for a tourist eVisa for stays typically up to 30 days (longer validities up to 90 days are configurable). A visa-on-arrival has historically been available at major airports and key land borders for around USD 50, but Mozambique is transitioning toward mandatory pre-travel online approval in 2025-2026, and authorities and travel advisories now warn against relying on visa-on-arrival; airlines may deny boarding without prior approval. The conservative and recommended approach is to secure the eVisa before departure. Note: a separate ETA registration requirement for visa-EXEMPT nationals introduced in April 2025 was temporarily suspended in May 2025, but this does not affect Hong Kong, which always required a visa. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months with blank pages, and travelers should carry proof of accommodation, onward/return tickets, and proof of funds.
