Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit KZ?
Holders of an ordinary HKSAR (Hong Kong) passport do NOT need a visa for short tourist visits to Kazakhstan. They may enter visa-free and stay up to 14 days per entry under a bilateral mutual visa-waiver agreement between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan that has been in force since 26 July 2012. Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holders enjoy visa-free entry to Kazakhstan for stays of up to 14 days, based on the Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements signed in May 2012 and effective 26 July 2012 (Kazakhstanis likewise get 14 days visa-free in Hong Kong). This 14-day allowance is a separate, treaty-based channel and is distinct from Kazakhstan's unilateral 30-day visa-free program for roughly 50 other nationalities — Hong Kong is not on that 30-day list, so travelers should plan around the 14-day limit. Kazakhstan is not a Schengen state, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Since 2025 Kazakhstan has eased stay rules: temporary registration with migration police is generally not required for foreigners staying up to 30 days (well above the 14-day visa-free window), though a hotel or host typically files an arrival notification. For stays beyond 14 days, a longer stay needs a visa (Kazakhstan offers an eVisa for eligible purposes) obtained in advance. Travelers should hold a passport valid for the duration of stay, proof of onward/return travel, and confirmed accommodation, and should confirm the latest rules with the Consulate General of Kazakhstan before departure.
