Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit IS?
HKSAR ordinary passport holders can visit Iceland visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, because Iceland is part of the Schengen Area. No visa is required as of 31 May 2026. ETIAS is not yet in force, but it is expected to launch in late 2026 and will be required thereafter. Iceland is a member of the Schengen Area, and holders of the Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport enjoy visa-free entry to the Schengen Area for short stays of up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period for tourism, business and family visits. This is confirmed both by the Hong Kong Immigration Department's visa-free access list and by EU/Schengen visa policy. No advance visa or pre-authorization is required to enter Iceland for a short tourist stay at this time. Travelers must hold a passport valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date from the Schengen area, issued within the previous 10 years, with at least two blank pages. Border officers may ask for proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds. Two changes are arriving: the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) began phased rollout from late 2025 (biometric registration at the border, no application needed), and ETIAS, an online travel authorization, is expected to go live in the last quarter of 2026 with a transitional grace period into 2027. Once ETIAS is mandatory, HK passport holders will need an approved ETIAS (around EUR 20, valid up to 3 years) before travel, but it remains a visa-waiver scheme, not a visa. As of 31 May 2026, ETIAS is NOT yet required.
