Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit IQ?
Hong Kong (HK) ordinary passport holders need an eVisa to visit Iraq for tourism. Iraq suspended traditional visa-on-arrival on 28 February 2025 and now requires all eligible travellers, including Hong Kong nationals, to apply online for an eVisa (pre-travel authorisation) before departure via the official government portal evisa.iq. As of 30 May 2026, Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holders cannot enter Iraq visa-free and can no longer rely on visa-on-arrival. On 28 February 2025 the Iraqi Ministry of Interior suspended VOA and migrated to a fully online eVisa system operated at evisa.iq. Hong Kong is on the list of eligible nationalities (alongside the USA, UK, EU states, China, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and others). The tourist eVisa permits a stay of up to 30 days and is valid for 90 days from issuance, single entry. The total cost is around USD 155-159, which typically bundles a mandatory travel health insurance component. Approvals are commonly returned within 24-72 hours, but applicants should apply at least 7 days before travel. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months on arrival. Note: the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (KRG) operates a separate entry/visa regime; this guidance covers federal Iraq entry. Iraq carries serious safety travel advisories; verify current conditions before booking.
