Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit HU?
HK SAR passport holders can visit Hungary visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism. No visa is needed before travel as of 30 May 2026. Hungary is a member of the Schengen Area, and holders of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) ordinary passport enjoy visa-free entry for short stays. You may stay for a maximum of 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area combined (not 90 days per country). This is confirmed by both the Hong Kong Immigration Department and the Consulate General of Hungary in Hong Kong. No advance authorization is currently required. Two EU systems affect future travel: the Entry/Exit System (EES) went live on 10 April 2026, replacing manual passport stamping with electronic biometric records at the border (no application needed by you). The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is expected to launch at the end of 2026 and is NOT yet operational; once mandatory (anticipated 2027), HKSAR travelers will need an approved ETIAS (about EUR 7, valid 3 years) before boarding. Until then, you simply need a valid passport. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from Schengen and was issued within the last 10 years.
