Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit GR?
HK ordinary passport holders can visit Greece visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism. Greece is in the Schengen Area, and Hong Kong SAR passports enjoy short-stay visa exemption. No visa or ETIAS is required for entry as of 30 May 2026. Greece is a member of the Schengen Area, and holders of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) ordinary passport are exempt from short-stay Schengen visas. This is confirmed by the Hong Kong Immigration Department's official visa-free access list, which states HKSAR passport holders may stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The 90-day count is cumulative across all Schengen states, not reset by leaving and re-entering, and is tracked at the external borders. For a short tourist visit to Greece, no visa is needed before travel or on arrival. Two new EU systems are relevant in 2026 but do NOT change the verdict for now: the Entry/Exit System (EES), a biometric border-registration system, began a phased rollout from 12 October 2025 (full implementation targeted around April 2026); and ETIAS, a pre-travel travel authorisation for visa-exempt nationals (including HKSAR passport holders), is scheduled to start operations in the last quarter of 2026 with a transitional grace period, meaning it is expected to become mandatory only after that period (around 2027). As of 30 May 2026, ETIAS is NOT yet required to enter Greece. Travellers should ensure their passport is valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date from the Schengen area and was issued within the previous ten years, and be prepared to show proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, sufficient funds, and travel insurance. Always re-check official sources close to departure, as ETIAS enforcement dates may be confirmed during 2026.
