Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holders enjoy visa-free access to Switzerland, a Schengen Area member state, for short stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits. This is confirmed by both the Hong Kong Immigration Department and the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration. No advance visa or fee is required for the stay itself. Two new EU/Schengen border systems are relevant: the Entry/Exit System (EES), which became fully operational on 10 April 2026 and registers travellers biometrically at the border at no cost, and ETIAS, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System. ETIAS is scheduled to begin operations in the last quarter of 2026, followed by a transitional grace period; therefore, as of 30 May 2026, ETIAS is NOT yet required for entry. Once ETIAS becomes mandatory (expected from 2027), HK travellers will need to obtain an approved online authorisation (around EUR 20, valid up to 3 years) before departure. Travellers should ensure their passport is valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended date of departure from the Schengen Area and was issued within the previous 10 years.
